Toyota has again finished on top of the Australian new-car sales market in September with 17,682 total sales for a market share of 17.2%, off the back of strong performances from RAV4, LandCruiser Prado and bZ4X.
Toyota’s first battery-electric vehicle, the bZ4X, recorded its strongest monthly sales result to date with 410 units, showcasing the increasing popularity of Toyota’s zero-tailpipe-emission medium SUV range. Following the release of the upgraded bZ4X at the end of 2025 and the addition of the new Touring grade in mid-2026, bZ4X sales are nearly five times higher than at the same point of 2025.
The new-generation RAV4 was again Toyota’s most popular vehicle with 4,624 sales in September. Since its launch in June, plug-in hybrid variants have proved popular accounting for approximately 30 per cent of sales, and will become even more accessible for customers in the first quarter of 2027 with the addition of the GXL 2WD PHEV grade.
Increased vehicle supply also saw another strong monthly result for the LandCruiser Prado with 2,006 units, following on from the 2,475 sales recorded in August – its best monthly result in over 12 months.
Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations John Pappas said the increased vehicle stock secured earlier in the year was continuing to flow through to customer deliveries.
“In June, we announced we had secured additional arrivals of some of our most popular models, which are being delivered to Australian customers thanks to the tireless work of our more than 270 dealers across the country.
“Strong sales across our range is a vindication of the benefits that our multi-pathway strategy delivers for customers with vehicles that meet their needs and are fit for purpose.
“Our customers continue to demand a broad range of vehicles that meet their needs and with our increased supply, we are targeting a very strong, record fourth quarter sales for 2026.”
